WordPress from scratch: hosting, theme and tools step by step

A practical route for a one-page site, landing page, business website or store: compare hosting beyond the first-year banner, install WordPress, choose a lightweight theme and test the result.

This is a path for someone who wants to build a site without buying random plugins and without getting trapped in expensive hosting after the first promotional year. Choose the site type first, compare several servers next, and only then choose the theme and modules.

Define the site type first

One Page

One page, one offer, several sections. Good for a simple local business or validating a service.

Landing Page

One campaign and one CTA. Elementor Canvas can remove unnecessary header/footer distractions.

Business website

Home + services + about + contact + knowledge. Plan URLs and SEO from the start.

Store

WordPress + WooCommerce, but hosting and cache must be chosen for a dynamic cart, account, database and cron jobs.

Hosting: compare cost, resources and renewal

No single platform is best for every project. Review first-year and renewal cost together with backups, mail, CPU/RAM limits, NVMe/SSD storage, PHP, SSL, cache, Redis, migration and support quality. The list below shows five providers worth comparing before purchase.

How the TOP 5 was builtThis is a practical shortlist for a small or medium WordPress site, not a paid ranking or a laboratory benchmark. The comparison uses public provider pricing, renewal cost, basic resources, SSL, backups, WordPress support and clarity of terms. Prices were checked on 2026-09-11. Always verify the current cart and terms before buying.
Hosting / planYear 1 / renewal gross3 years gross*Strongest point
1. VH.PL SPLN 109.47 / PLN 109.47PLN 328.41predictable price and a strong WordPress stack
2. SEOHOST SH 1PLN 45.51 / PLN 156.21PLN 357.93very cheap entry, NVMe and LiteSpeed
3. OVHcloud StarterPLN 100.22 / approx. PLN 163.69approx. PLN 427.60large operator, WordPress and first-year domain
4. LH.pl OrangePLN 61.50 / PLN 244.77PLN 551.0430-day backup, WAF, Redis and Polish infrastructure
5. dhosting StartPLN 47.97 / PLN 281.67PLN 611.3125 GB NVMe, 4 GB RAM and clearly stated starting resources

* 3-year total = the first-period price visible on 2026-09-11 plus two renewals. It excludes domains, paid add-ons and later price changes. Promotions can end at any time. For OVHcloud the renewal total was calculated from the published monthly rate.

TOP 5 WordPress hosts - how they differ

1. VH.PL

The strongest argument is cost predictability. Plan S currently costs PLN 89 net per year and the same on renewal. The provider lists 25 GB NVMe, LiteSpeed, Redis, WP-CLI, SSH/SFTP, Imunify360 plus website and email backups twice daily with a 31-day history. A practical option for a business site and several projects when you want to know the cost two or three years ahead.

2. SEOHOST

SH 1 currently has a very low promotional price of PLN 37 net for the first year, while the standard price is PLN 127 net. The package includes 10 GB NVMe, LiteSpeed, SSH, free SSL, ImunifyAV protection and migration. Strong price-to-specification value for a small WordPress site, but compare using the standard price, not only the promotional banner.

3. OVHcloud

Starter is a simple entry point into a large international infrastructure. It includes a WordPress module, SSL, Anti-DDoS protection, automatic backups and a domain for the first year. The limitation is specific: 1 GB storage and 2 email mailboxes, so treat it as an option for a small site rather than a large store or a site with a large image library.

4. LH.pl

Orange costs PLN 50 net in the first year and PLN 199 net on renewal. Its specification includes 5 GB SSD/NVMe, 30-day backup, WAF, Redis, SSH, HTTP/3, free SSL and hosting in Poland. LH.pl also lists ISO 9001 and 27001 certifications. Renewal is more expensive than the first two options, but the package includes a broader security and support stack.

5. dhosting

Start Web Hosting is currently offered at PLN 39 net for the first year, with renewal at PLN 229 net. Starting resources are 25 GB NVMe, 3 GHz CPU and 4 GB RAM, up to 2 sites and 3 email mailboxes. Free SSL and migration are included and the environment is described as WordPress-optimised. It is worth comparing when clearly stated resources matter more than the absolute lowest multi-year cost.

What I would compare for each use caseOne Page / simple landing: start by comparing VH.PL, SEOHOST and OVHcloud Starter. Business website: VH.PL S, SEOHOST and dhosting are sensible starting points, but verify mailbox counts and actual resources. WooCommerce: do not choose the cheapest plan only because it can run WordPress. Test cart, account, cron, cache, database load and peak-hour traffic.
TOOLS

Compare five hosts before buying

Links go to the providers’ official sites. The choice should not be reduced to one company or to the promotional entry price alone.

Install WordPress step by step

  1. Connect the domain to the hosting account and wait for DNS.
  2. Enable SSL/HTTPS.
  3. Install WordPress from the hosting panel or manually using the WordPress documentation.
  4. Set the site title, language, a secure administrator account and a current PHP version.
  5. Before designing, set the permalink structure and make a backup.

Which theme to choose

If you are building with Elementor, Hello Elementor is a sensible lightweight base. Elementor describes it as a minimal theme built for its editor. It is not a finished design - you get a clean canvas.

Important for performanceDo not install several “optimisation packs” at once. Measure the problem first, reduce images/fonts/scripts, then configure caching. Elementor itself warns that disabling parts of theme CSS should be tested on staging.

Typical problems and quick diagnosis

The site is slow

Start with PageSpeed and the Network panel. Check LCP, the largest images, fonts and render-blocking resources. Do not begin by installing another plugin.

Images are too heavy

Prepare WebP/AVIF, reduce dimensions to the real display size and use compression. Do not load a 3000 px image into a 400 px tile.

Elementor looks different after an update

Check cache, regenerate CSS and verify custom CSS selectors. Changes in theme HTML can break selectors tied to specific elements.

Google does not see schema data

Check Rich Results Test and the source code. Do not assume a green status inside an SEO plugin guarantees correct front-end HTML.

WEB / START

WordPress plan without buying blindly

I want to build [one page / landing / business website / store]. Industry: [x]. Main CTA: [x]. Annual budget for hosting and paid tools: [x]. I already have: [domain/logo/photos/copy]. First propose the minimum stack: hosting, theme, builder and necessary plugins. For each item explain: what it does, whether it is necessary, recurring cost, lock-in risk and an alternative. Do not recommend a paid item if a free option is enough. Then give the installation order and a pre-launch test checklist.
